LDM Finds Solution for Almay’s Nearly Naked

When Almay, a division of Revlon, came up with its Nearly Naked liquid makeup, it had no idea how challenging it would be to find a way to package it.
The formula, suspended in a sponge, contains an SPF, thereby needed to be hermetically sealed in packaging that was also lightweight and portable.

Lombardi Design and Manufacturing (LDM), reviewed the options and weighed the variables to come up with the answer. LDM modified an existing Revlon tool for a screw neck jar and adapted it with a unique polypropylene ring (bezel) that would snap into the upper inside edge of the polypropylene jar. This ring served to keep the sponge from falling out. It also accommodated a conduction (heat-applied) aluminum foil seal to keep the product hygienically sealed until removed by the consumer.

To ensure an absolutely tight seal without the use of an unattractive liner, LDM developed a polyethylene ring that snaps up inside the lid, creating an airtight seal between the lid and base when the lid is closed.

Color Optics Creates 3-D Factice
for Gardenia
Color Optics developed a three-dimensional POP display made of paperboard to replicate Elizabeth Arden’s Gardenia fragrance.

The factice was printed with an artist’s creation in
four-color process, and finished with ultra violet high gloss lacquer and green foil stamping. The factice was shipped flat and easily assembled at retail for an attention-getting display.

Vera Wang for Men Calls on Team of Suppliers
The Vera Wang for Men collection, which began launching in January exclusively at Saks, followed by specialty doors in February, and a full roll out in May, took a team of packaging suppliers to bring to market.

Vera Wang herself did all the package creative work. The bottle, designed to be a perfect partner to Vera Wang for women, was manufactured by Heinz Glas. Zorbit created the cap for the bottle to look like dark wood,.Valois supplied the spray dispenser, and Qualipac made the collar.

Qualipac is also the manufacturer of the tottles for the after shave balm and hair and body wash, as well as the deo stick in the collection.

Risdon-AMS Honored for Creating
Guerlain Package
Risdon-AMS took home the Formes de Luxe award for the Guerlain ‘IssimaHappylogy’ beauty cream jar. The jar was engineered and manufactured at the Risdon facility in Marolles, France.

Happylogy’ comes in two sizes, 30-ml and 50-ml. The jars are injection molded in Surlyn and are remarkable for their very thick walls.

The molding required a unique cooling process to maintain resin clarity for glass-like look. Both sizes are fitted with an iridescent polypropylene product cup, sealed by a polypropylene lid that features a ‘shape-memory’ handle and the embossed Guerlain logo. The jar is topped by a shiny gold metallized polypropylene cap molded with a swirl-like sculpted handle, and fitted with a self-adhesive foam liner.

Liz Claiborne Chooses Rexam Pumps for Spark
Rexam Dispensing Systems supplies the pumps for the full line of Liz Claiborne’s Spark For Men and Spark For Women fragrance products. Rexam’s Crimpless System (TCS) pumps are used for the Men’s 15 ml, 30 ml, 50 ml and 100 ml cologne bottles, as well as a TCS Shaker Valve for the 50 ml and 100 ml Spark After Shave. The TCS pumps are also used on the Women’s 15-ml, 30-ml, 50-ml and 100-ml EDP packages.

Rexam’s low profile pumps (LPP) were chosen for the 30 ml, 50 ml and 100 ml sizes for both the Men’s and Women’s scents, while its super low profile pumps (SLPP) are on the 15-ml packages – Men’s Cologne and Women’s EDP.

All the metal pump assemblies are anodized in a burnt orange color to complement the overall look of the package and decorative collars. The ‘cat’s-eye’-shaped collars are held in place when a round, metal sleeve (part of The Crimpless System) is pushed down onto the package.

Five Star Picks Custom Bottle’s Cosmos
When Five Star Fragrance came to Custom Bottle, it needed a salon-size package for a moisturizing body lotion line. Custom supplied its 24 oz. Cosmo Round in HDPE with gently sloping shoulders. Custom Bottle also supplied in-house two-color silkscreen decoration for the four different SKU’s.

The 28/410 neck finish accommodates the Calmar’s Showerguard Lotion Pump, selected by the customer for its high output, its excellent sealing features, and its great look. The Cosmo Round line is available in a range of sizes
from 2 oz. through 1 liter.
